A good hamster cage should be spacious, well-ventilated, and secure with solid flooring and room for essentials like a wheel and hideouts. Wire cages with deep bases, glass tanks, or modular setups can all work, depending on your hamster’s breed and needs.
A happy hamster is active, curious, and engages in natural behaviours like burrowing and running. If they eat well, groom regularly, and explore their cage, they are likely content.
However, bar biting, pacing, or escape attempts may indicate stress or a lack of space and enrichment.
Hamsters are generally best housed alone. Syrian hamsters are highly territorial and must be housed individually.
